Micheal,
A few years ago I did a hatchet cutting into a log, but I didn't mirror the two halves on the first cut, so I had the same side. Anyway, I mirrored it which I ended up with two hatchets. After seeing this post, You gave me the idea of the bananas, so I modeled some. Thanks for the idea, it was a fun project.
If anybody wants the stl file I attached them, but they are illegal in California.

(too bad about STL Files being illegal in California - must be carcinogenic, eh?)

Thanks for the reply. I have not found that size lumber at my local Lowes in my part of Southern California. I will ask at the store to see if it can be ordered. Many thanks to you for the info you are very helpful so I can continue having fun with my hobby.

Dan,
Check your Home Depot too (if in your area). They might have the Select Pine 1x12
My local Lowe’s carries the 1x12 size and my local Home Depot used to, as well. However, my Home Depot now only stocks up to 1x8 in the Select Pine, so I only buy all Select Pine from Lowe’s now, since they stock all widths.

I have some bark blanks (discs), that I picked up at a hobby supply, that I might alter you project to use...
Just cut the axe portion with a through block to join to the base.
Great idea and thanks for the projects.

Debbie created, made, and painted this about 30-years ago, long before we had cnc.
The bananas are real, she eats one or two every day. Now that we have cnc and laser she doesn't want to make anything anymore...
I'll bet your banana was a bit chewy and bland
