Can someone explain post processors?

Post by chrispy »

Hi all, real newbie question for you, can someone tell me about post processors please, I am in the process of buying my first cnc (router) the seller is using alphacam software and is keeping it, I'm wanting to use the Vectric vcarve pro but I can't find a post processor for my machine in the included list, so should the post processor that is currently being used now work with vectric as well or are they individual to the software packages?
Thanks in advance. Chrispy

The post processor is for a specific CAM program. You can't use an AlphaCAM post processor with Vectric products.

What type of machine is this?

think of a post processor as an interpreter between your design software and your cnc router. That is a different way of defining it but it works for me.

If no one answers with a suitable post for your control, I suggest sending an email to support@vectric.com they may have a solution for you.

I found one of those on Ebay, and it looks really old. Does it have USB or network support? The one I saw looked to only have a 1-3 line LCD display.

If you can post a sample program here, someone can probably tell you if it's possible to make a post that will work.
