Vectric for plasma toolpaths

Post by Greolt »

I only put this post here because I don't know in what section to place it.

Are there any other users doing plasma cutting work with Vectric programs?

Only new to Plasma CNC and feeling my way. Most plasma users have other software. I am using Aspire.

Have written a Post Processor putting out gcode that so far suits my needs. Those needs may become more demanding as I progress with this machine. Who knows.

Interested to share ideas with any others doing this.

I use Aspire to draw up the item, but I use another program for the tool path.
Aspire does not do the THC, auto reverse interior cuts, or auto cut parts to allow for expansion,
and other things.

Yes Aspire does not do some of the THC things that other programs might, but for a simple THC like I use, it makes little difference.

My Post Processor takes care of touch off, arc start etc. Mach3 takes care of anti dive as far as applicable to my THC.

If I were using one of the more sophisticated THCs it might be different.

Aspire (or VcarvePro or Cut2D) will reverse direction on interior cuts.

And no, it will not allow for expansion or distribute cuts to reduce heat effect, avoid tip ups etc.

But it is the program I have and that I am very familiar with. At this early stage I see no compelling reason to look further afield.
