trying to understand the diference between normal and arc pp

Post by rocabig »

i am trying to understand the diference between normal and arc post processors
from what i can gather normal works by breaking up curves into small straight lines
and arcs uses curves except if the curve is a bieser then it turns it into small straight lines

is this correct?
what are the advantages and disadvantages of either?

thanks for any help

Richard

Hello Richard,

You have summed it up correctly.

With a non-arc post processor, all curves will be output as small straight line moves
within a tolerance of the original curve.

With an arc post processor, if the curves are constructed with arcs, the curves
are output as arc moves for the machine.

On a well tuned machine there will often not be any discernible difference.
However, some machines will machine a curve cut using arcs, more smoothly than
one cut with lots of straight line moves.

The size of the output file will usually be much smaller from an arc post processor,
although again, this will make no difference for the vast majority of machines.

I hope that this helps,

Cheers,

Mark.
