Creating a profile on a cylindrical blank

Post by TSans »

I'm just getting started with a rotary axis and I need some help understanding how to accomplish some simple tasks.

I want to machine a profile in a round piece, something simple like a curved vase or similar shape. Something that you'd see done on a wood lathe for example. How do I create the profile and then generate a toolpath to cut that profile into a round blank?

I'll start with this as the first step but later I'll want to add a simple design to the surface of the cut piece.

I'd appreciate anyones help in getting me started.

Regards,

Tom

I believe the information you are looking for is in the tutorial Randall posted at the following link.

It explains how to create the drawing in Aspire and then wrap it around the cylinder to do what you are looking for.
