I have a 4 axis controller, I have a total of 4 stepper motors, can I wire the 2 "Y" motors to one and buy an indexer? In Mach3 the "Y" is set up with a slave, would the power to the motors change? Or can you tell me where to go to find this out?

I'm going to jump in here before you go and try it out, I know that with my hobby cnc board, it didn't like 2 motors on one axis 
It let the smoke out.
I have a 4 axis gecko drive now, and the directions say that you shouldn't hook up 2 motors to one drive either.
This may not be the case for all controllers, I expect someone more knowledgeable on the topic will come along soon.
