Re: Wrapping Question

Post by mezalick »

Greg,
I tried to duplicte your method posted and I have run into a brick wall.
My setting are the same and the toolpath looks the same.
When my machine starts cutting it will go to the "correct" lowest surface and run the lenght of the stock ( i have it to raster on the Y, the long lenght of the stock).
It will raise up to "cut " the furthest bump.
As it returns, the bit will again lower itself to what I call the base level and return to the starting point.
Step over correctly and go to the far end again, only raising for the profiles at the far end, in effect cutting all the extra material needed before it get to the end of the stock. It's almost as if the machine is running backwards.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Mihcael

Here is an example of one way to lay out a 3D shape for wrapping multiple times around a job.

This method makes use of the "Wrapped Job Setup" gadget. See first pic.

I then made a (very boring) 3D shape and positioned it within the spiral wrap layout. See 2nd pic.

Third pic shows the toolpath view. Toolpath has been constrained to the spiral wrap layout so that it does not recut previously cut areas.

This method works for some very plain 3D models. When the 3D model gets more complex then the layout method needs be more creative.

Michael

Sounds to me like you are toolpathing the whole of the material.

Select the parallelogram shape that the gadget provided and confine the toolpath to that area.

Greg,
Yes, you're correct, I was doing as you suggested. But ( and correct me if I'm wrong ) if I choose the area, the "shape" is recessd into the stock material. Or is it jaut one of the issues with projecting the 3d image in the wrapped option?
Thanks, I'll run it tommorow.

In the post above you can see the disadvantage of using the spiral wrap gadget method with this type of job.

I often prefer to lay it out so that the whole of the job can be cut in one sweep.

For an example of what I mean see the second post in this thread,
