Paul
You need to get your head around the relationship between the size of the layout and the eventual circumference.
There are quite a few examples in this thread, http://www.vectric.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=6449
And for wrapping a 3D model 360 degrees, look at this particular post, http://www.vectric.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 301#p44301
These examples were wrapped with CNCWrapper, but it is exactly the same thing as we now have inside aspire.

One thing Greolt never mentioned.
If you need a little Circumference calculator like the one in CNCWrapper, go to Andrews site CNCWrapper.com and there is a free one there. Just click on "Freeware"
You can just extract it to the Gadgets folder in Aspire and then the next time you start Aspire, you can select it.

I certainly don't want to sound stupid by where is the "Gadgets" folder in Aspire? I can't find it.
Re: Wrapping 3D all the way around a cylinder
\Program Files\Aspire V2.0\Gadgets
Slowly I turned...

Of course to have the "Gadgets Folder" you have to have the "Upgrade Patch" installed.
I renamed my Aspire folder to Aspire 2.5 and then changed my shortcuts etc.

You can machine a 3D surface around a cylinder but you cannot machine all the way round a 3D object.
You can machine a 3D object from 4 sides.

Re: Wrapping 3D all the way around a cylinder
Paul (above) has made a good point.
I did not pick up that Paul (OP) was perhaps referring to a full 3D model.
What has been included in the latest version of Aspire is a method to "Wrap" an XYZ toolpath to a rotary axis via a post processor.
Please don't be confused, this is a long way short of full 4 axis CAM where you can produce a toolpath from a full 3D model. Like for instance a chess piece.
Wrapping is nothing new, we have always been able to do this via a variety of methods, however we now have a post processor included in Aspire.
This is just the first small step toward the day when Vectric will have a proper 4 axis CAM program (are you reading this Brian? )
However, even though the wrapping method is quite limiting, there is still a useful range of things we can do with it.
I look forward to seeing, over time, the collective ingenuity of this forum coming to bear on this wrapping method and the work that will be produced.

Re: Wrapping 3D all the way around a cylinder
Just a thought but could it be possible to get close by using some crafty
art work with the modeling tools in aspire and wrapper to create a 3d Model.
