size of a round blank problem/error

Post by mservis »

Hi,
I have a round blank that is not completely round. It's largest diameter is 5 inches and the smallest is 4.75. I would like the round blank final diameter to be 4.75. What numbers do I put in
the rounding gadget to tell the machine what to do? When I enter 5 inch for the largest diameter and any other number less than 5 for the next
box for the amount of material to leave on the cylinder it gives me the error of : the diameter of the round blank (5) must be equal to or grater than the cylinder diameter + allowance. What does this mean?
Do I need to put the 4.75 value in diameter of the the round blank?
I have watched the video's over and over again. and it skips over what to enter for the allowance and instructions on rounding an already round blank.
Thank you...

I believe you should enter 4.75” for the diameter in the job setup and 5” inch for the blank in the rounding toolpath gadget. You might get some air cutting but should end up with the 4.75” blank. Hope this is helpful.

Create a Rotary job with a diameter of 4.75" and whatever length is appropriate

Select Gadgets/Wrapping/Create Rounding Toolpath

Select the round blank radio button and enter 5 in the box. Use a raster or radial toolpath. The gadget already knows you want to end up with a 4.75" diameter blank. Leave the allowance at 0. (I use a large end mill for this operation.)
