Round wooden "klos"

Post by juan »

Hello All,

It`s bin a time that i posted a problem. The most problems i can find on the forum!!
But this time after many hours reading I really need your help.

It`s probebly a simply solution but im not getting there.

A wooden "klos" (don`t know what it is in english) cut out an 30mm wooden stick.
cut on the x-as, i made the drawing and a picture. "I think you get the drift"

thanks in advance

Hi Juan,

Your project can be done in Aspire with a 2 rail sweep. You need to cut your pattern in half to establish the profile of the 2 rail sweep. See attached

Load attached and go to 3D VIEW tab and in the Toolpaths tab (on top) got to 'Toolpath Drawing' and tick 'Wrap Y values (around X axis)

Remember to use your tail stock with this project or else the klosje (whatever that is :) ) will break off before you finish your project.

Thanks Norb, that`s Quick!!

That is exactly what I want.. Now I`m trying to duplicate your moves

first question, how do you know your height in the "job setup" ? that is 94.248mm ?
The width thats easy, the Thickness is 1/2 wooden "stick" diameter, but the height i don`t get it.

thanks!!

Piet is right but you don't need to do a calculation.

Opening your original file I saw that the job was 30mm in the Y direction hence your stock diameter would be 30mm too.

I then 'halved' your design to be used in a 2-rail sweep and exported it as DXF.

Loading a new session of Aspire I went immediately to (tab) Gadgets > Wrapped Job Setup and entered 30 in the diameter field and the length as per your original job setup.

Then I looked at these wrapped 'job setup' details and made a rectangle of exactly the same size as the job and centered it. Then in node editing I went to each corner and 'cut' the vectors deleting the top and the bottom line of the rectangle. The remaining left and right sides are your 2 rails. Import the DXF file, select the 2 rails and the imported vectors and with a 2 rail sweep you get your klosje.

You see, you can use the formula with pie but I prefer to leave the pie out of the formula and have it with a cup of coffee.
