For one of my projects I needed some internal left hand threads but my lathe does not have the option to reverse the lead screw. I was going to make them at work on one of their lathes on my day off but then I got to thinking. I recently finished an indexer for my mill and had been playing around with it so I modified the boring bar and made a plate to attach it to the spindle of the mill. Using V Carve I made a spiral wrap program with a left hand twist and 0.100 lead.
Turned out fine.
Thanks for looking

Re: Rotaty threading
That is pretty ingenious. So you are just using the rotary indexer, and one axis on the mill? Does that boring bar put a lot of torque on your spindle?

Re: Rotaty threading
Thank you
Actually I disconnected the Z axis and ran it by hand at about 0.025 per pass. I didn't know what to expect so ran everything pretty slow at first.
Since the X and rotary were tied together I could make as many passes as needed.
Another use for Vectric software
Thanks Vectric.
