Legacy milling machine conversion
Has anyone tried to convert a Legacy Milling Machine to CNC? I would like to add a stepper motor for the 6' models long axis and rotary axis. For starters what size motor/gear box should I use?

Legacy sells conversion kits for some of their machines, or they used to. You might try contacting them.

Re: Legacy milling machine conversion
They use to sell an AC motor with limit switches prior to thier CNC line but not any more. This was a simple start button and it ran to the limit switch. It would be easy to put a NEMA 23 stepper motor on it if I knew the torque requirement. After that the controller part is simple. Yes it is the 1200 series per joes link he placed.
