Eagle/Wolf window panel

Post by DouglasD »

I'm new to both CNC and the forum. I've been operating my shop now for about 5 months.
I wanted to try making a door so I chose the simulated window with the Wolf and Eagle across a lake.
This was just a trial door so I only made it 49 3/4 x 24 x 1 3/8 ..to fit in a broom closet.
I didn't want to commit to a big door first time out.
I glued up some 8/4 E. White Pine then planed both sides til I got it down to 1 3/8" (used a 1.5" insert type spoilboard bit)
This was my first experience using the 2 rail sweep

For the rough carve I used a .375 inch end mill cut time was 3 hrs 20 min.

The finish run was with a .125 ballnose cut time was 8 hours 50 minutes. I used a 15% step over. Because of the size of the piece it doesn't look to bad and going to 10% would have added at least another 5 or 6 hours.
I cut the project over 2 days.
I'm using a Techno LC+ 4896 and I'm still not sure how hard I can push it.

I finished it with cherry stain and Minwax polyurethane.
The cleanup on it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. This was the first time I'd used White Pine and it came out better than I'd hoped. I gave the door to my father-in-law whose last name is Wolf.

Very nice carving - I hope your Father in Law was pleased with it?
