Raccoons with Rustic Frame

Post by tmerrill »

Just finished a wall plaque using VectorArt3D's new Rustic Frame (http://www.vectric.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=7628).

The adult raccoon comes with D&C 1 or can be purchased directly from VA3D. The baby raccoons and frame were purchased directly from VA3D. These three models, plus the background tree trunks, were combined using techniques from the D&C 1 tutorials.

The wood was a large piece of spalted maple, but it came out a little dark after finishing. So I'm getting ready to cut another in white (clear) maple to see which one I like better.

Overall size is approximately 12" X 14" X 1". Roughed with a 1/4" downspiral, finished with a 1/8" tapered ball nose and highlighted a few areas using a 1/16" tapered ball nose using rest machining.

It was sealed with shellac and glazed with two different colors. Then finished with spray lacquer.

Thanks for looking

Tim

Tim, that came out very well, the darker staining really enhances the carving too.

Cheers,
James

Tim, That looks great, I also like the finish, making the pine cones and around the eyes darker.
What angle did you machine this? 0? 45? 90?

Hi Don,

It was raster in Y and I had the blank oriented so that was with the grain. It was a lot of detail, the Z was moving constantly.

No need to start another thread, but here is another scene with the Rustic Frame. The customer saw the raccoon one above and ordered one, asking for the same type wood and finish.

Thanks Jim.

By the way, I sent you a PM (private message) last week but that process may be new to you. Look at the top of the forum screen on the horizontal menu area and it should say 1 new message. Click on this and you open an email type screen.

Hello Tim,
I really like the Rustic frame and both the Moose scene and Raccoons look great.
There is a lot of detail on each and it takes me a while to look over it all in awe.
Thanks for posting your work for us to see!
Best regards,
Wes

Hi Tim,
Great work on the Rustic Frames and the animal that crept into the picture...hahaha....I had a question for the other Vcarvepro users as well as myself.....I assume you made these pieces in Aspire....and I also thoguht that once you purchased the rustic frame that you just scaled it to whatever size you wanted and changed it all in Aspire. But for a Vcarve user, I understand that you have to make the changes to the size in 3D Machinest and than import into your vcarvepro programs and then carve......the only thing that you cant do is move or break apart the individual entities within the arework like you can in Apsire.......am I thinking correctly?
