Hi Gang,
Here is another mantel using one of the ready made scenes from the new Design and Carve series.

Overall length is 60" carving width 31.5" by 5" high
Material is oak
Rough cut with a 1/4" ballnose
Finished with 1/8" flat endmill, 150 ipm, 5% stepover.

Nice job Joe. That's an impressive piece of wood.

I'm currently cutting this same image in a piece of hickory for a coat rack. It's my favorite image for the included ones.

Did you really rough cut with a bull nose and finish cut with an endmill?

I guess the temperature in my shop (110-115 degrees) is taking its toll. I used a 1/4" ballnose for roughing and a 1/8" ballnose for the finish. I had another project this afternoon where I used a 1/8" flat endmill and I guess I just had that stuck in my brain. So to speak...

Again, virtually no sanding

I can relate to your shop temperature from my time in Charleston SC. Now with a basement shop it stays in the mid 70's during summer and low 60's in winter.

No, I don't know Paul. With the stock market showing some encouraging signs, hopefully he's busy. Is he a friend of yours?

Paul and I used to fly together in the service MANY years ago in S.D. He retired from the Air Force, went to Hendersonville and became a stockbroker. We haven't corresponded in probably 15 years, but I think about him whenever I see one of you guys from Hendersonville.
