Ferguson Shield Help

Post by Ross »

I started on this project about three years ago and now want to finish it but I have lost my way.
I am not sure if this is the right forum to be asking for the type of help that I need but here goes.
I started with a sketch of a Ferguson badge/coat of arms, call it what you will, and I developed it to a point and then got sidetracked.
I can't, for the life of me, even remember how I managed to get as far with it as I did. Or whether it will actually machine okay.
Can I post the crv3d file and get someone to look at it and tell me how I can get to the next stage?
I just cannot get the motto, the thistle leaf spines or the pine trees to show in the preview.
And I don't think I have the FERGUSON, in the banner, done correctly either.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well I have tried, twice, to upload the file and it doesn't seem to be going anywhere, unless it is reviewed before it is posted.
The file is about 23,000Kb so it may be a bit big.
Is there any other way of uploading it?

The forum limit is 2mb.

Easiest way is to put the file into one of the offline solutions such as DropBox, Google Drive, Sky Drive etc and then post a shared link here.

Thanks Cowboy. Great shield but the one I am working on is a family/clan type shield.

As I cannot upload the file I have created a link at http://kumeu.co.nz/fergbadge/ where it can be downloaded.
You may have to right click on it and choose to save it.

I'm far from an expert on 3D but I don't understand why you've set the toolpaths up like that. Why not use the 3D toolpaths?

If you use a 3D finish toolpath you get the attached result in preview.

Thanks for the reply Adrian. I get that view in the 3D View panel but not in the Preview Toolpath panel. The pines and leafspines don't seem to appear in the view that you have posted.
I know I am doing the wrong thing.
How do I set a 3D finish toolpath?
I thought that I had done it in 3D and the image I get is as attached. I do get the leafspines but they don't follow the leaf contour and the name is engraved rather than raised, as in your preview.

Adrian you made me think again about what I was doing and I looked again at some of the tuturial videos and worked out your 3D reference and all is well.
I am ready to machine the parts.
Thanks again for your help.

Sorry I missed your reply yesterday. Glad you got it sorted. I was going to point you towards the tutorials anyway. :D

Hello Cowboy, I just happened to trip across this posted badge and was wondering where you got the pattern or was this something you created yourself. Many of my family and myself are in the law enforcement community and I would love to create a badge like that for here in Ohio.

Thanks
