How can I rapid Z through already wasted material?

Post by wdwkr53 »

I milled a male part that was 2 inches in height on my mini mill in aluminum that was from a block 3"WX2"Lx5"H. I set the safe Z at 1" and save travel @ .2". The program had several resets to mill the corners. It did a rapid up and down to the safe Z, then went extremely slowly all the way down to the deeper surface. Why can't Aspire remember that it already removed the material from Z=0 to let's say 1.5" down and do a rapid descent until the .2" level? I had the Z=0 at the top surface, does this make a difference?

Once it's in the material it will use the Z speed set for the tool in the database. It doesn't matter if the Z is set at the top or the bottom.

Rather than doing multiple passes in one toolpath you could create multiple toolpaths each having a different start depth and one pass. It should then rapid Z down to the start of each.
