Looking for an endmill

Post by Nappy1 »

i'm trying to find out if anyone has ever seen a 90 degree, 1/2 inch v carving endmill with either a 1/2" or 3/8" shank. a 3 inch shank would be nice.
thanks. :?:

You might also try 'mcmaster.com' and 'mscdirect.com'. They (especially msc) have an almost unlimited selection of cutting tool profiles. They are primarily geared toward metal working, but I have used many of their metal working tools for wood.

Well I checked out Centurion Tools. They had what I wanted but when it came in the shape is something I am not use to seeing. Its a solid carbide .50 shaft
configured to cut a 90 degre V. There is no area for relief. A V bit for wood, like a Home Depot it has 2 blades welded to the body of the bit with open areas for chips to flow through. This bit is totally flat with the sharp carbide edges and thats it.
I will be testing the performance today and i'll post the results along with a photo of the tool later.

:P I just got done testing the new tool. It works fine. It cuts a clean v carve letter with no issues.
here is a photo of the tool.

Nappy1,

I have a couple of these bits from Centurion and how well they work depends on the material. For hardwoods you may have to adjust your feed rate and rpm as they will burn faster than your typical 2 or 3 flute v-bit. Another tip is to keep the cutting end clean and free of any buildup and to run an extra fine diamond file across the cutting surface in-between uses.

While I really like the spiral bits I've gotten from Centurion, I won't be purchasing any more of their v-bits.

I am using them on HDU so they are working well but I shart your opinion. Not for anything else. If they has a clearanced area in between the the cutting edges it would be great. This is what i am cutting.
