I am trying to figure out the size of my steppers ie. the mount.
Does any one know the standard dims for a nema34 or nema 23 mount??
So I can measure mine and figure it out
Thanks,
Nick

Howdy Nick,
Will this help at all? http://www.aerotech.com/products/motors/1000dims.html

Edit...I'd like to see your new lathe , I know it's on it's way soon, and I'm following your build, Jim Mcgrew's build and learning from you guy's 'cause I will definitely go with 4th axis, cncwrapper and eventually aspire $$ !!

Re: Stepper motor question???
hello nick
most website, or companies suggest to using same size like others exist on your machine...
if your controller would have 3 axis exist, then take picture about axiscontroller and write down all available info you find on the controllers... very possible you bought from, they can help you...
for second you can try camaster, you already know them...
for part, timing belt, and pulleys the sdpi website can give you part...
http://www.sdp-si.com/
for this, to buy part, just start it if you can put on paper the part, and you have acces to make it, or in a local shop you can order...
thanks

Re: Stepper motor question???
Thank you Viktor!
I emailed the support for my router and I don't think they understood what I was asking. Your english is MUCH better than theirs!
I want to match motor types for my rotary axis so I can use the same drives etc.
Thanks again,
Nick

Re: Stepper motor question???
Good Morning Nick,
Hope you have your Starbucks already!
As for motor, I would doubt if you need the same motor for the A axis.
Are you adding another controller or does the existing one have a free axis?
If adding an extra channel of control, then you can size it & the motor however you wish.
I would guess that a 425 would be OK, but Greolt might say otherwise.
I would personally use ~4:1 ratio as that can be done in one conversion, with one set of pulleys from McMaster (60:15) and a belt. The CAMaster guys use ~ 3.8:1 on the one that was in SC. It might also make a difference as to how you are using it and the desired accuracy.
OH, BTW: there are two of us here in Canada, that are looking at building a new rack & pinion machine with a (4'-8') 4th axis (on the long side) using 8020 & steel.
Have a great one!
