Hi Jim. I forgot to tell you (in case you didn't know) CAMaster said that they were going to give away a copy of the Indexer Wizards to every rotary axis customer. You should qualify.cabnet636 wrote:ok this was too easy, i just had to do some measurement, CAMaster x3 had an extra 3" of over travel beyond the amount required to get the outside router to clear table, (actually 4" if one wanted a tight limit switch boundary) after i set that all i had to do was remove gantry bolts (make sure you have a clamp on the gantry and plates) and slide it down 2", i now have 9" over travel on the right router and 7" radius on the lathe, have decided to go ahead and have a set on 10' 2x4 rails attached which will give me 96" of rotary axis toolpathing area.

Re: rotary axis machines
I've got it mostly worked out in my head with a z mounted on the backside of my gantry arm like you suggested and i think i can extend two rails from under the table to carry the lathe.
I need to hire some one so I can play with fun stuff and still make money! NAAAWWWW

Re: rotary axis machines
If the reason that you haven't used it yet is that you don't have software for it, please take a look at my website. The Indexer Wizards is a very inexpensive solution for people that want to create cylindrical objects with flutes, spirals, polygons, wrapped carvings, etc.JCTalbert,LLC wrote:Glad to ee Some guys using a rotary...I purchased 1 with my machine and haven't tried anything with it... Welcome aboard JD. Dust that rotary axis off and get into it.JCTalbert,LLC wrote:Glad to ee Some guys using a rotary...I purchased 1 with my machine and haven't tried anything with it... YET... Looks like I found a good home and wealth of informative people...
We have a number of rotary users here. Most of the discussion is about what we can achieve with the software we have (Vectric) without selling the kids to buy real 4 axis CAM.
Using utilities like Rich's Indexer Wizards and CNCWrapper etc.
See this thread for some examples, http://www.vectric.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=6449

Re: rotary axis machines
Now the fun begins.
I see in the last pic that you can utilise the main high frequency spindle on the rotary axis. That's good.
I had thought that only the outer most router was going to reach.
So I guess you can have a two tool operation going uninterrupted.
