Re: Cnverting Aspire toolpaths for 4th axis machining
I might finally have a reason to reconnect the indexer that I bought 4 years ago.

Re: Converting Aspire toolpaths for 4th axis machining
Yes it is a start. And as far as that goes I am glad that Vectric have decided to include this, it is a step in the right direction.olf20 wrote:Well Greg, look what you have started!!
But lets not get confused here. What has been announced IS NOT 4 AXIS CAM. It is post processing a XY plane toolpath and wrapping it for use on a rotary axis.
We have already had the ability to do Wrapping of toolpaths for some time, with CNCWrapper and more lately with Rich's Indexer Wizard.
Yes it will be good to have this built in to Aspire and Vcarve Pro. Being able to see some sort of visualisation of the toolpath will be a great thing.
BUT PLEASE READ THIS BIT,
The major concern that Vectric have had with the idea of including Wrapping, is that some users will think that Aspire and Vcarve Pro now have the ability to do 4 axis CAM.
THIS IS NOT THE CASE, and if we get too many posts that can be interpreted as users getting the wrong idea, then Vectric may rethink and change their minds about including it.
So please be clear about what has been announced. It is not 4 axis CAM, it is a way of taking a XY plane toolpath and Wrapping it around a rotary axis.
There is a world of difference between the two.
As I said, I am happy about this development, but it is just the first step towards the day (that I believe will come eventually) when Vectric offer a 4th axis CAM program.

hello
yes greg... we have to be very patient to wait they can develop...
aspire already a very complex program... i understand their hesitation.... if a new feature confusing users, and brian tony mark need to spend to much time on this one feature support, that eventually slow down the development on all their work...
also a point, all vectric program got popularity by their simple using... if a new feature makes "complicated" the work with.... that also lead to slowing down everything...
some user just jumped in cnc, some made lithopane on a rounded pvc pipe... it's the two end of users...
i'm personally happy...because i see same what you described...this program can grow up same like autocad grew...
thanks
viktor
