depth of cut uneven

Post by mailman »

I have been gone from the forum for quite a while, I had a serious illness in the family, everything is somewhat back to normal. I hope everyone is O.K. So I am kind of starting over. I broke my machine down and re-assembled, I was having a problem with cutting depths getting deeper from left to right, it is a sidewinder cnc. It is perfectly level, I thought maybe it was racked. I am using charlesworth type 1.75". I did a test cut using all Ts , the width of the letter is about an 1/8" wider on last letter, when cutting is done.
Using Mach 3
Velocity 120
acceleration 6
steps per 3200
Thanks, Mark

Hey Mark,
There was a recent post about how to check the level of your table.
I can't remember in which section it was, but it was pretty straight forward.

It was something like this.. put the x & y in the center. with a 1/4" rod, make a shape like
^ Collet
I
I Make this part - vvvv -I think it was to be as wide as possible
I_______________________
this group of I should be at ^ I
this group of I should be at ^ I
this group of I should be at ^ I
this group of I should be at ^ V table top
(had to edit this ^ to get position correct)

and put it in, drop your Z to touch the table with the rod and rotate it. It should be totally even with the table all the way around. If it isn't, that would explain it. Bet you will find the table isn't level, if not, it proves it is level and possibly your gantry is off.
Thinking further, if the rod was only 1/4 the width, you could check the gantry also.

For a clearer description, better to do a search - possibly for 1/4" rod
