Chatter on Y in one direction

Post by CNCGG »

I have a Techno Isle and have started getting chatter on the Y axis as it moves away from me. When it moves towards me, it cuts smooth.

I know its not the software or post, what can I check on the machine? Can it be the belts or collets?

Im doing center line grooves with a ballnose tool. They ran fine before.

Thanks for any help!!

Glenn

Hi Glenn,
Just a shot in the dark, here, but you might check the bearings on the far end of the Y Axis screw that runs under the center of the table. You might also clean and lube that screw if you don't already do that on a regular basis.

Called Techno,

There are some small bearings on the Y motor that go bad. I checked mine and they are.

2 New bearings on order !!

Thanks,
Glenn

I am glad you found the problem and it wasn't too expensive When you called Techno did you talk to Bob? He has helped me through some really odd problems over the years.

Thanks, Jim. There is not a lot of Techno information floating around out here.

I sure wish I could make your camp as it sounds like it is going to be quite an affair.

Recieved the bearings today.

Just got done installing and cleaning and regreasing everything. I orderd the plates with the bearings allready pressed in as well as the smaller shaft on the Y motor. All for $28.

A new motor with all the front parts is $500, glad it was just the bearings.

I spoke with Bob, very nice guy.

You did okay on that deal. Wait until you have to buy a Z Axis motor. WOW.
