i have purchased an industrial frame gantry and z head with a lathe!! 2x3' bed, we need to machine hundred's of post for a job and are thinkink of using mach 3 instead of wincnc as the plug in's may be an attractive feature.
my question is how many of you have done lathe work with the mach and what were the result's?

Hi James,
The new machine sounds like a great addition to your shop. I use Mach3, but have not done any turning with it. Maybe posting to the thread will bring your question back around one more time and hopefully someone that is using Mach3 for turning will reply.

Hi Jim,
I have done many small turnings with mach3, and a sherline lathe. Mach3 is the only way to go: it works as it should, and is simple to use once you get past the initial learning curve.
I write all my own code, so I wouldn't have to buy an expensive software package, and learned how on the mach forum(great source of info!{Hood and the gang are great folks}).
If you plan on doing high production then once the code is finished, mach3 will work like a workhorse day-in, and day-out!
