Active Noise Canceling Headphones

Post by Rcnewcomb »

I need to protect what little hearing I have left.

Any recommendations for (or against) a particular brand of active noise canceling headphones? Currently the air compressor is the loudest thing in the shop, followed by the dust collection, and then the spindle. Is active worth it or should I just get the $4 ear muffs from Harbor Freight?

These have worked well for me for over a decade

Battery lasts forever, adjustable level. Can hear people talk, dogs barking ect but any loud, sharp noises are severely muted.
{Ooops,Looks like you'd have to hunt them down on ebay though, might be out of production.]

I like these https://www.amazon.com/3M-Worktunes-Pro ... ooth&psc=1 from 3M. 3M Worktunes Wireless Hearing Protection with Bluetooth Technology and AM/FM Radio. This way I can tune in via bluetooth from my phone, but I don't get out of range.

The bad: The bluetooth does not have capabilities for phone audio, so you cannot hear the phone ring via bluetooth. This is my one complaint. They would be perfect if they added this.

Probably my union safety training but I'd be leery of blasting out music in the headphones while working, for obvious reasons. You are depriving yourself of a primary sensory input, best not to take it too far in the interest of comfort and convenience.

I agree. I listen to PodCasts rather than music. Enough sound comes through that I can hear when the pitch of the CNC changes. With this new CNC I'm still learning to identify the sound of a good cut.

FYI they are safety so no blasting of music I would be more afraid of listening to something else I might concentrate on... music is just better noise than the drone of machinery . yes when I run CNC I have it lower or off to defiantly hear the changes in the router...
