new stepper motors

Postby thephridge » Tue Jun 26, 2018 3:54 pm

we bought this router cnc machine about three years ago and just now have gotten into using it, it used to run off Linux and other cam software. We are trying to convert it over to vectric and mach 4 but the stepper motors we have no numbers on them so we have no information on them to set up the parameters and want to just buy new ones so we have the information on them. so we are wondering what ones to get so we don't end up getting the wrong ones for the machine. any help would be awesome we are new at this and don't know much about really anything

Are all of the motors the same size? Measure from center of bolt hole to center of bolt hole across them and get a measurement.

At least one of the motors looks like it's a double stack motor (meaning more powerful).

What are the drivers that are running the current motors? Brand, model? Are they set by DIP switches? If so, get some photos of the settings of those. They usually tell a lot about the motors.

I can understand why you might want to just replace the motors but there is no real need to as Mike has said depending on what drivers are fitted & their dipswitch settings you can normally get all the info you need, a lot of the details about the motors can also be found elsewhere as well, number of wires & their colours is a good clue, the centre to centre measurement Mike told you to take will indicate which series they are, look to be nema 34 but pictures can be deceiving   Once you know what series they are the body length can help in narrowing down what sort of power rating they have.

Where did you buy it? Can they not help at all ??
