Zero shift at end of project?

Post by bearcat »

While carving out a project it appears that towards the end of the process the zero shifted and resulted in the last part of the project not carving. Hoping this was an anomaly (yeah right) I ran it again and had the same outcome. Any ideas what caused this or how to fix it? See attachment for reference. Thanks! Also, I know I ask a lot of questions and don't have any advice to give to anyone that has questions, I hope in time I can help other people out as much as you guys help me out.

If you can post the last dozen or so lines from your G-Code it'll say if it's a program issue.

Could be your material is warped or not held down good.

Did the preview in VCP look correct? (pretty sure it did).

Are you using the correct Post Processor?

Try surfacing your material to make sure it's flat then reset your Z 0 to the top of the material (assuming this is how it's set in VCP) and rerun the Job.

Material is perfectly planed before going on the bed. How would I go about pulling the last few lines of code from VCP?

You don't get the g-code from VCP. The g-code is in a file you saved out of VCP and loaded into your CNC.
If the g-code file isn't too big post the whole file.

Here is the file, as an update I created a completely new project with different artwork and size and had the same issue. When I stop the program and tell the machine to go back to 0,0,0 is always shows the bit higher than it originally started. I will not let me upload the .tap file

Sounds like the router climbed in the bracket as the project progressed.
I had this happen on my Pirahna.
Replaced the bracket, same thing.
Added sandpaper between router and bracket, and no slips.

Router position is unchanged after inspection. It doesn't move or shift at all.

It would because you are setting the z0 to the top of the work piece, but as flying_flip is pointing out either the bit is slipping in the collet or the whole router is moving in the mount as the job progresses. Another thing that could be happening is your z drive screw could be slipping causing the machine to loose z zero. Check your z stepper motor connection.

This is a mechanical issue, not software or g-code (.tap file).

Is it just a coincidence that it is repeatable on multiple pieces of planed wood? Does it in the same spot everytime with that project.

Oh my God, my apologies. It does appear that my collet had become loose. Not.loose enough the feel but loose enough for the bit to slide up. Thank you so much, I feel stupid that it was so simple.
