Rik, this doesn't sound right, at least for my machine with a grounded tool.
Are you using the Figure 8 diagram on page 9 of the C10 manual? Is your tool bit electrically isolated from ground?

I think the standard touch plate (and the way I did mine) has only 1 wire soldered to it, and the alligator clip is connected to the second wire. A voltage (+5V) is placed across them from your control board, and when the tool touches the plate, it shorts, and this is interpreted as an input signal by your control system.

The resistor I am to use for my board is to be between 220-270 Ohms

Guys, this thread for me is all messed up. Recently, like in December I turned my control box to smoke so all my stuff is junk and I must start all over with new and cheaper components. Living on fixed income so not a lot of cash at hand. I'll be back though with more crazy issues. So it's back to the drawing board for me. Thanks to all for the comments.
