Router Bit info in UK

Post by daibeer »

Hi all,
Can anyone explain the router bit thing. I am just starting up and need a general mix of bits. V bits, cutting bits and roughing bits. I go to specific sites but they do sell a lot of products, so can anyone give me the relevant info on what bits do I need to start up with, what they are actually called in the websites, the sizes I need and a couple of links to newbie friendly sites. I basically want to carve wooden signs and a bit of 3d work. Thanks for reading and sorry to be a pain.
regards
Dave

I get all my bits from Wealden Tool in the UK (http://www.wealdentool.com).

For starters I'd say get a 1/4" and 1/8" down spiral - http://www.wealdentool.com/acatalog/Onl ... t_228.html - T4D3175 and T4D6350

A 90 degree and 60 degree v-bit. I find the three flute engraving cutters give the best results - http://www.wealdentool.com/acatalog/Onl ... e_719.html - T108 and - http://www.wealdentool.com/acatalog/Onl ... e_718.html - T107

For 3D work you'll need some ball nose cutters. I use these - http://www.beckwithdecor.com/index_files/Cutters.htm - but Wealden do some as well - http://www.wealdentool.com/acatalog/Onl ... t_286.html - but ideally you need 1/4" and 1/8".
