Hi Wolffie,

Have you had a read here http://www.woodworkforums.com/f170/tips ... sers-96380 . I think that should set you straight. Can you tell me if Saisay is an acquaintance? Does it stay up long enough to change the PD settings. I wouldn't attach the spindle just yet in case you smoke it. If it doesn't stay up your connections are probably incorrect.

Cheers
Kim

Hi Kim
SAISAY is me :D
I was being cyber stalked and had to change my username.
I have read through everything on the Woodwork Forum but the stumbling block is that there is nowhere to connect the earth wire. All the other models have a connection screw but not this one and without working out what to do, the inverter just switches off within 5 seconds. I do not know how to set a connection up myself.

Try taking your picture over to cnczone.com and someone there may be able to help you.

8 amp seems very low for a 2hp spindle on 230v. My 2.2hp one needs a 20 amp connection and a friend of mine has a Chinese 2hp one that we had to hook up to a 16 amp breaker.

I have all 15 amp breakers in the workshop plus a couple of 20amp so the spindle is not my main concern.
This is what it says on the spindle label though:
JGD - 80c - 2.2 k (Size symbol) 80 x 215
2.2Kw 220V 8A
400Hz 24000 rpm

However, it is the grounding of the inverter that is my problem, there just isn't anywhere to connect it.
I found out when I took the inverter apart that the screw hole with the missing screw and the yellow warning on it is not connected to anything on the circuit board :?

WEIRD ?????

Wolffie

Is there a place on the inside or outside of the chassis to ground the box? Look for a green grounding screw. 2 power lines and a neutral along with grounding the box should work. Breaker tripping could be due to under rated breaker. It may only be 8 amp but on start up it will draw more current. Is your wire heavy enough?

No electrician but just my thoughts.

Breakers do go bad especial when they have been overloaded for an extended period.

This house is only 12 months old.

 MYSTERY SOLVED
This inverter was damaged in transit and I had patched it up.
When I received the replacement, I opened the front cover, sure enough there was the earth lead.

It goes down to a metal plate between the fan and the electronics.
The manufacturer had forgotten to add it.
If the inverter hadn't been damaged in transit, I would never have known

I just wish that would have meant success.
Now my main problem is that there is no "T" connection provided and the clever ones I have seen so far are not able to tell me how to connect the neutral wire or whatever the correct name of the connection is.
So I am still scratching my head

Got the wiring problem sorted out, the spindle is running but VERY slowly.
Bit worried about running it without the water cooling connected, it seemed to get very hot quickly.

The spindle RPM should be set in the controller. What controller do you use?

Running the spindle without water would damage the spindle very quickly.

Yes I did, thank you.
The manufacturer made a video just for me to show all the steps.
Great customer service.
