Profile Colour Without the hassil
Hello.
Today i stuck some sign writing Vinyl to PVC foam AKA Signex and then cut the lettering I require.
This came out perfect and cut without any issue.
This might be a useful idea for others.
Regards
Bart

Hi Jason.
I was half expecting the Vinyl to fluff, rip or melt to the cutter or not cut correct as i've not seen anyone else try this.
but the cut was clean hense "cut without any issues".
Regards
Bart

I am not sure what you meant by "cut without any issue"

This one is about 1.625" tall. Serif are less than 0.063". The vinyl is quite thin. Came out pretty acceptable. Rout with a straight edge O-flue single edge, probably HSS.
The customer was applying the vinyl on the letter after (and carefully trimming it) before I suggest to cut both at once...

Sorry but I really can't tell; I don't know. All the vinyl to acrylic/polycarbonate that I have tried have cut nicely (color, metal-like and release mask).
My word would be; if it stick solid, it'll stand the cut. I would not recommend a up cut BUT I haven't tried it actually... keep with the straight edge or a down cut... on the other hand, I wouldn't recommend a down cut with some plastics (acrylics).
One more thing, if the design has very sharp details such as pointy star; try to put a radius at it. Even a 0.02" radius will help prevent to tear the vinyl at those places.
Woohoo! I've just upgraded to FireFox 2 and it has a built-in spell check!

Nice!
...and I bet they will like it too. What was your material thickness and how do you plan to anchor it to the wall/building?
I routed 4 surf boards for a customer out of this same material that was 1/2" thick and it machined great. Good stuff, but not recommended for long term outdoor useage....I'm told

Hi Dave.
I was just going to use a product called "no more nail" basically a building adhesive out of a calking gun and prehaps 2-4 screws per letter.
yeah it machines well i like it but it is also very felexable which can be a problem when you near the end of the cut and the material starts to bend and move. so far the most trickiest part is sticking the vinyl to the signex with out air bubble wrinkels etc.
signex is ment to last a few years outdoors i have been told.
ha surf boards nice.
I think the thickest material I can get is 20mm here.
Regards

Thanks Jason.
I don't like installing things much i rather make it couier it out and let some one else worry about the joys of installing.
Either way got it screwed to the wall and it looks good.
A TIP for applying Vinyl is to take a mist spary bottle and fill it with water and a few drops of dish wash liquid.
Spray the surface and apply the vinyl. Then using a Vinyl sqweegee work out the air bubbles from the centre out.
the water allows the vinyl to move and to be peeled back if you so require with out streching or damaging the vinyl.
Cheers

So Bart the real question is did you get free food for doing the signs?
It's all about the perks.
