I've used the Live Trace feature in Adboe Illustrator CS2 and have been fairly pleased with the results. I had never used Illustrator before and got the Live Trace feature working within 5 minutes. http://www.adobe.com/products/illustrat ... s.html#nf1
I have also used Illustrators Live Trace. It does a really good job at tracing.
Combine Illustrator Live Trace, with the Trace feature in Corel Draw X3 and Inkscape, and you will have a very good arsenal of raster to vector conversion.
Thanks Tony, I guess I will check out Inkscape first, I don't think my work computer has that adobe program you mentioned (I think they just have photoshop and illustrator).
I didn't see the other replies about live trace before I replied to Tony, I will have to see if my work computer uses CS2 (I think it's just CS, so I probably don't have that feature anyways). Thanks for the replys everyone.
Looking for some advise. I have downloaded Inkscape and opened a Bitmap type file. I ran through the PATH>TRACE BITMAP and then saved as an EPS file. But when I went to open in VCarve Pro, it gave me the following message "The file probably only contains BItmap Data" and would not open. What am I doing wrong?

After tracing did you delete the bitmap?
Dan
Thanks for the information, no I did not delete the bitmap prior to saving. I deleted the bitmap and I was able to save and upload into V-Carve. Thanks again, this saved my weekend.
I use InkScape and think its great, but when I convert to vectors, it seems to generate a vector on each side of my black lines instead of just one for each line. This results in me having twice the necessary vectors and can mass up my carvings when I import to VCP. Any ideas? Thanks.
