bit storage
bit storage
Have you made a cleaveer storage rack or system for keeping your bits organized? Would you care to share a pic? I have been using a machinist box but my bits always seem to ennd up in one drawer. (I know operator error)

Hi Kimon,
Here is a pic. of my storage rack.
All my cutters arrive individually boxed. I usually order ten of each when I place an order, then load then into the rack.
I can instantly see when a particular size is running low.
If any used tools which are ok go back into the rack I mark the box with a coloured marker pen. Then when I need that size again I know which one to pick.
I also have bucket loads of old used tools that for some unknown reason I have kept. (Anyone with any polite suggestions of what I could do with them. The majority of them are upcut spirals and I havn't had much success with them after re-sharpening.)
I must have spent thousands of £ on them over the past 25 years.
I used to use one very similar to Chuck but apart from taking up a great deal of table-top space, or being knocked off the table occasionally and then bits everywhere, they are also open to contamination of one sort or another. Dust, moisture etc.
Hope this helps you decide on what is best for you.
Regards,
Warren.

The size of the tray was cut to go inside the roll around toolbox drawer...Warren wrote:.

.
mine is tucked away to keep it from getting knocked around...
I would hate to drop that tray...it would be difficult to have to identify those little bits...

Hi All,
I'm new here, but some of you know me from the ShopBot Forum. I'm new to Vcarve so I'll be doing more reading than writing here, at least for a while, and then probably posting more questions than answers for another while, but that's how it goes I guess.
Anyway, I thought I'd introduce myself with something I can contribute to. Here's my bit storage solution. I'm already planning to expand it in the near future, and probably mount it on the wall.
Regards,
David B.

Welcome to the Forum David, I really like your storage area. I hope you didn't make the holes to tight, for the shank.
Mine is simular, But I also chamfered the edge of the hole to help guide the shank in easier,
My first storage was similar to yours Warren, but I added a small wood stackable tray that I slid into the different boxed area. The wood trays had grooves or was fluted the size if the tool.
