Laser cutting sandpaper

I ordered a Proxxon detail sander the other day for detail work. All the reviews admit that the sandpaper seems pricey. 4 small die cut sheets of sticky backed shapes (round diamond, square, etc) run about $7. I ordered a roll of 4.5" Porter-Cable roll 120 grit paper from Amazon for $13. Good deal. My laser did a nice cut @ 12 in/min. The only problem is that there is no backing on the paper. Just rolled sandpaper, grit on one side, and sticky on the other. I can cut it, then lightly press it to a piece of glass, etc until peeled off.

Are there adhesive sheets or rolls that have a peel off backing? Not a big deal, but I'm not familiar with roll paper, etc.

In the body shop we bought rolled 3M sandpaper for sanding blocks [and longer sticks] that have adhesive with backing paper- I think boxes of 4x16" sheets too.

I think I need a trip to Austin Hardwoods to check out the 'pro' line. This morning I got a 8" self stick disk for a stationary sander that is supposed to be peel-off back. That's next on the 'to try' list.

Until I find the 'perfect' sandpaper, I've come with a very workable solution. The solution is 'Parchment Paper'. It's a single-use liner for baking, steaming, general kitchen use. It's usually impregnated with some silicone. I simply cut a section the same size as the sandpaper and stuck it to the back. It sticks enough to stay in place before and after the laser cut. My own removable backing! I did think about wax paper, but I think it will leave some residue on the glue from the heat.
