Dumb 3D Question

Post by johnelle »

A vendor just sent me an .stl file for a replacement part so I can "machine my own." When I open it in Vcarve I am at the import 3D model window and this small 2mm flat acrylic piece is sticking up in Z axis looking at the side view. The 2D view is looking down on the top (i.e. a rectangle). I just want the thing to lay flat so I can machine this very simple part (3 pocket holes and a profile/cutout).

I don't do a lot of 3D and so I am helpless trying to get this thing to lay down on the ground plane. During the import I can at least get it sitting on top of the ground plane but its vertical.

Can somebody give me some hints on how to get this 3D part sitting flat on the ground plane so I can so some simple 2D pathing?

Thanks for any help

(I can't really post the .stl because it's a vendors design)

At the top of the 3D import screen you have the initial orientation selection. Click in each of those until it appears the way you want.
