Converting a 3D carve to an Acrylic Panel Engrave

Post by lathemaster »

Please pardon my inexperience

I want to take a pattern from the Design and Make Thanksgiving No. 1 project and
instead of say doing the pumpkin as a relief carve I'd like to change the carve to an
acrylic panel engrave for my edge lite LED lamp.

Can't seem to wrap my brain around the how to process.

Thanks in advance
Mike

You just need to open the objects properties (the spanner icon on the modeling tab) & then set its combine mode to subtract (the "U" shape)
You may also need to change the thickness of the model while you are in that form. Best to also add a zero plane to ensure the edges of the model don't cause problems

Just re-read your post & now not 100% sure what I said is correct, are you looking to cut this as a 3D model or as an engraving as may be done with a diamond drag bit

If you are looking to engrave (just scratch the surface) then you can't do that with a 3D model, you could however convert the model to vectors using the trace bitmap tool
