Carving King Plastics Color Core with Vcarve

Post by johnelle »

I have to do some outdoor trail maps so I carving them on King Color Core. All their "tips" are for folks using big industrial CNC machines. Just wondering if anybody has experience doing this with Vcarve / desktop CNC machine. For example in their video http://www.kingplastic.com/video/video- ... colorcore/ they are showing flat bottom letters carved with a very small v engraving bit. Never done this is Varve. The letters were always actual V or raised letters in a pocket. This is almost like every letter is a pocket.

(the rationale is this is layered product where you machine away the top layer revealing a different color "core")

For the thinner versions or small letters I pocket out the letters with the pocket toolpath and a 3mm straight bit. For thicker I use a VCarve toolpath with the flat option checked using a 90 degree v-bit and a 6 or 3mm clearance bit.
