Cutting Brass

Postby madmaxh3 » Fri Jun 30, 2017 8:41 pm

Hi All,
This is my first time posting, so I apologize if I'm too redundant .
Can anybody PLEASE enlighten me on how to cut alloy 260 Brass ?
I would like to know any recommended - bits, feed rates, cutting depths, plunge rates - and ANY other tips or tricks.
I'm kinda stuck with a spindle speed of 27,000 rpm (Shoulda got the Dewalt, not the PC. Oops!)
I am relatively new to CNC routers.

Disclaimer: I've never cut brass.

On with my uninformed opinion:
A quick search showed that others have had success with the Onsrud 63-600 series bits. The recommended chip load for a 0.125" bit is 0.002 to 0.004. So, at 27K RPM with 1 flute the feed rate would be 60 IPM.

It looks like material hold down can make a real difference in edge quality.

YMMV

In this thread 1st reply are the setting I used, not sure of the type of brass I had.

As to your router, you might take a look at the SuperPID (google search). I have had mine for 3 years and it had preformed great.
