Adjustable Font... Would be nice if...

Postby newmexico » Tue Jun 27, 2017 2:20 pm

Wouldn't it be great if there was an ADJUSTABLE FONT?

For example, say you plan to use a 1/4" spiral bit. You dial in 1/4" with this ADJUSTABLE FONT and it adjusts each letter of the alphabet for the 1/4" bit.
We've talked with a couple of font designers about this and they just laugh. "Ha ha... no such thing."

I'm on a "wouldn't it be great if" kick this morning. Why? because I'm doing a lot of node editing on a sign with approximately 60 letters that all need to accommodate a 1/4 spiral bit. We cannot cut using the vcarve function, darn.

Why can't you just "pocket" with a smaller bit?

Making raised letters with a bunch of background that needs to be hogged out.
Too lazy to stop and change bits, or something like that.

Just winning about fonts today. Font designers are making fonts for paper output, not CNC output.
They can design fine detail with fonts because the resolution of today's printers can handle fine detail.
Fine point vs fat point, if that makes sense.

Yes, why not pocket cut? Good point.
Many times we will vcarve around letters (pocketing) then come back with our 1/4" spiral bit and start on the pocket cut line.
