Engraving a bowl

I'm new to CNC and could use guidance. I'll use VCarve Pro.

I aim to make a hardwood bowl and engrave its interior with a mathematically-defined
set of curves like ones depicted in the attachment. The depicted curves
would be parlayed into v-shaped channels about 1/16" deep.

Should these channels be included in the bowl's model opened by VCarve Pro? Can
they be specified separately? Does VCarve Pro handle engraving in special ways?

After you make your bowl shape, turn the math line into a vector. Project that onto the inner bowl.

Ah excellent. Thanks for the tip Mike. Turning the map line into a vector :)

Dear Mike,

Many thanks.

Can a "vector" be used to engrave one curve with one depth and another with a different depth?
I'm thinking I'd like a "v" profile. I might want its depth to change, along the curve.

Dear Mike,

Looking at your attachments, curves in mine can sit on the surface of
the basin of a bowl, which they circle.

Not sure what you're asking.
You can V-carve or Profile ON, but need to check "Project toolpath onto 3Dmodel" in either case.
For V-carves, the depth is set by V-bit "pointiness" and distance between the two vectors.
For Profiles ON a vector, you can set a different depth for each vector. I don't know how you could control different depths along the same vector except maybe to play with fluting.
Below is "Profiled"; first example above was V-carved.

Dear Mike,

I'm planning to cut the bowl first and to engrave on it with the
methods you suggested. When I do, I'll post photos here.

I enrolled for the Vectric workshop in Las Vegas, 20-21 October.
That will help me come up to speed, and, by then, I'll have some
experience with CNC routing.

Many thanks,

David

Where is the workshop thru in vegas? I would like to sign up. I'm located in L.A. and desperately need to take a class.
