Mirror Lithopane Image

Post by olf20 »

I've done several lithopanes and have had great luck.
I heard somewhere that the lithopane could be mirrored.
Meaning that the smooth side would be on the outside and
the engraved portion would be on the inside next to the
light source.
What is required? Do I just mirror the image in VCP, engrave,
and them mount the litho flat side out?
Thanks for any help!

Yes just mirror the image carve & mount round the other way, some people prefer them done that way I actually like them done with the carving on the outside so you can try & figure out what it is when it is switched off

Same with Edge lit acrylic, some prefer the carving/engraving on the front, others on the back, really just a case of personal choice. Wouldn't say either way was wrong

Lithophanes look a little "blurry" when the smooth (uncarved) side is facing the viewer. Much clearer detail when the rough (carved) side is facing the viewer.

(For what it's worth, there is no such thing as a Litho P ane. It is Litho PH ane. Although it is all too common to see the misspelled version without the "h".)

Thanks for the reply. I learn every day.
I also like engines and at one time I posted something
about a Cummings engine. I was corrected immediately.
