How to Achieve Fine Detail With Small Models

Post by ADX_Digifab »

I typically 3D carve large models that do not have fine detail so now that I'm trying to make a small jig for the "arms" glasses frames, I'm getting stuck on how to achieve fine detail--even with programming the finishing pass as a 1/32" tapered ballnose bit at a 7% stepover rate, which seemed to me to be a sure way of getting the job done.

Here's what the Vcarve preview looks like. Any suggestions would be great!

First thing is to make the material block in the job setup a lot smaller. Ideally it should only be a little bit bigger than the model itself. VCarve is pixel based so you're only using a tiny number of pixels in the corner with that setup.
