Editing question

Post by Phil »

I downloaded the files from the German website with the dinosaur. One of the included files was for a fly. I've scaled the drawing to a size manageable on our benchtop shopbot. The problem is that the interlocking slot is now .125" I would like to increase the size of the slot to .250 to accomodate .250 thick stock. I've tried a few ideas but no luck. Is there an easy way to increase the slot to .25.
I'm attaching the file.

Right now, it'll be more easy in any other CAD...

Phil,

You need to draw 0.25" wide rectangular slots that are slightly longer than the original 0.125 slots

Position these over the original slots

Unselect All
Select the original outer shape
Shift + Select the new 0.25" slot

Use the Weld > Subtract tool

This will subtract the new slot from the shape.

Hope this helps,

Tony

Yes, as long as it meet your need of accuracy... you know regarding positioning... but it'll do the trick!

Hello, I'm new to all this so if I'm off base it's because I'm just learning. Are you talking about the depth of cut being .125 and you want to change it to .25? I just opened the file, went to 3D view and click on "edit toolpath". That shows the depth as .125". Can't this be changed to .25" and saved?

No, they're talking about the WIDTH of the slot NOT the depth. Phil had scaled the drawing down to half size and the slots were now .125 instead of .250. He wanted them to go back to .25 .

Like Paco mentioned earlier, I would do this in a CAD program. Do an offset or move of each exsisting line of 0.0625 on each side of every slot. Then extend bottom of slot to meet new width. Won't take long once you get going.
