join vectors
join vectors
have two vectors highlighted. they are touching. I hit j, get the screen, which shows open vectors. tolerance shows .0004. when I change it to .01, it won't stay and reverts bock to .0004. the join window remains dull. I know I'm the problem j, just don't know what I'm doing wrong. help please. ted

Re: join vectors
I just had to figure this out the hard way yesterday. If you zoom in on the area in question, you'll prolly find that they just look joined, but in high zoom they are not.
Re: join vectors
cant post file yet, not that comp savy. as far as magnifying, did to the max. even went to node editing and stretched just to make sure, snipped the excess with box cked to connect vect after cutting. j box still said open vectors,.0004 tolerance, and connect box greyed out

Re: join vectors
The tolerance value won't change until the Join button has been pressed which is why it's reverting to the previous value. Pressing Close without Join first is like a Cancel button.
Check that you don't have the vectors grouped if you can't get the Join button to activate. Also try a much larger tolerance value. Depending on how big the job is and what the zoom level is what looks to be touching to the human eye can be a long way apart as far as the program is concerned.

Adrian, the tolerance level reads .0004. changed it to .01, but it reverts back to .0004. also the connect window remains greyed. ted

Re: join vectors
I know. As I said it won't stay at the value you change it to unless you are able to press the join button. Put larger values into it until join button activates. You don't need to press any buttons. As soon as you enter a value large enough the Join button will activate provided there aren't any other problems with the vectors.
Re: join vectors

Re: join vectors
Try this
Click on your model to select it.
Then click on the down arrow 5 times.
You will find that the open vector will stay behind so that you can see where they need to be joined. Click 5 times on the up arrow, then join vectors.

Re: join vectors
What are you trying to join? There's no way of joining the straight line to the box without creating additional vectors looping back on themselves. A closed vector has to start and finish at the same point.

Re: join vectors

Re: join vectors
Joe, this is the file as a VCarve one rather than an Aspire one.

Re: join vectors
I can't open that one either - it tells me it was made with a newer version. I'm using 8.020 and when I try to install 8.024 I get an error message at the end telling me it can't delete the old version.
