Cribbage board layout

Post by FixitMike »

I've been looking at the instructions for laying out cribbage board holes, and made what I believe are some improvements to make it easier.

1. Lay out a long vector that represents the path of the center of the lines of holes.
2. Draw vertical pattern of holes that represents the pattern of one row of holes across the long path.
3. Group the pattern of holes. This is important.
4. Determine how how many copies you need. This will be equal to the number of rows plus the number of spaces. For 24 blocks of 5 holes you will need 24 x 5 plus 23 (spaces)=143.
5. Copy Along Vectors: Select the group of holes and then the path vector. Be sure the Align objects to curve box is checked.
6. Delete every 6th group of cross holes. The grouping makes it easier to select the holes.

Mike, if you use 151 holes, it will allow you to set start and finish holes, while maintaining the same separation throughout, plus providing space for text ('Start' ' Finish") if you like. Just delete the extra holes as required to add these extras.

Yes. There are a number of hole arrangements one can use. The system will work for all of them, as long as you account for the spaces you will need between the groups of holes. So that when you calculate the total you need to copy, you end up with the right number after deleting for the spaces.
