A Beginner’s Guide to Kerning Like a Designer
Have you ever looked at a word or phrase you’re typesetting and something just looked off about it?
It might just be a kerning problem. Kerning refers to the amount of space between two letters (or other characters: numbers, punctuation, etc.) and the process of adjusting that space to avoid awkward-looking gaps between your letters and improve legibility...

Re: Good Article on Kerning
Thanks for sharing that Randall, will have a read latter when I have some spare time. Sure there will be something new in there I don't know about or haven't read before. The majority of text I do as a signmaker requires some sort of kerning to look it's best.

Re: Good Article on Kerning
That's a good article. Read it. Know it. Live it.
I'm probably not a perfect kerner, but I do pay a lot of attention to it. Sometimes I look at a word so long I don't even know if its spelled wright or even if its the correct word.
It's rare that I don't have to manually kern something I'm working on. About half the time, I have to fix the kerning of artwork that a "Graphic Artist" sends me. I usually just fix it w/o saying anything, unless it's really bad, then I email back with a rendering and an explanation. I've never had anyone tell me to un-fix something. Usually they approve it w/o saying anything about it. Sometimes they say they missed it, and sometimes they say they sent the wrong version.
Another common issue involves negative space. It's OK to be negative!
