Excel feed and speeds spreadsheet.

Post by FixitMike »

I made the attached spreadsheet to make a reference for setting my router speeds. I believe it is more convenient to use than most charts. It is designed for my machine, which has a maximum feed of 100 inches per minute, and a speed range of 5,000 to 25,000 rpm. It can, of course, be modified to suit your machine.

I know pass depth should change the outcome, but don't see it in your calculations. What pass depth does your table assume?

The assumed pass depth is equal to the tool diameter.

Amana Tool suggests if it is 2 x Dia, reduce chip load by 25%, and if it is 3 x Diameter reduce chip load by 50%.

Dale: Can PDFs work like a spreadsheet? For example, if you change the inches per minute number, the RPMs will change in the chart to suit.

Yes, provided you have Adobe Acrobat and make it editable.

Wolfie: Do PDFs do the calculations for you? In my spreadsheet, if you change the feed number, all of the speeds are automatically recalculated for you. The cells have the formulas entered.

You could put it on Google Sheets if it being in Excel format is a problem for people.

Thanks Mike, I downloaded it and it went right into Numbers (Xcel for us Mac users!) Works great,

If you use AA it will import the spreadsheet exactly as it is formulated including formulas (bad English?)
But the PDF must be made open for editing, you cannot have your cake and eat it too :D
Meaning that people who use it will be able to alter it.
After a rethink, I saw another solution, if people import the spreadsheet, I believe they can post it into Excel. If you place the formulas into a separate cel as an entry, they should be able to copy and paste into the top row.
I will have a look at it tomorrow a bit late here now.
I believe numbers are only in Windows 8.
Still thinking :D
If you upload the spreadsheet into Dropbox, they can download it as is into Excel
Cheers

I just put it into my dropbox and all people have to do is tell it to open it in Excel
Very very short, sharp and shiny that dropbox

The file opens into Apache Open Office Calc v4.1 just fine. It's a free download office suite. I also added a text note in my copy of the spreadsheet file that shows your comment about the pass depth.

Thanks Mike,
