fluting ramping

Post by RobSm »

Hi.

Is there a way to do convex curved flutes as opposed to concave flutes?
Sorry if I've missed it - it's a logical variation and probably useful to more souls than mine.

Thanks, Rob.

Just running some scenarios through my imagination I suspect some 2D spiral would need to be used so that the helix the fluting toolpath would generate would be a "convex" surface.

The moulding toolpath might be a better choice.

If you embed a Clipart 3D tab circular tab in your material, using the empty upside down U for the combine mode, draw the line you want to flute along, and then use the profile tool path, selecting the line and the model, and then click the "Project toolpath onto 3D model" box, you can get a convex "fluting" tool path cut.

I'm with Randall, the Moulding Toolpath would allow for infinite options.

Here's another method. If you have VCP 10 you can use the new Levels Clipping option.
