Words into letters

Post by 12a designs »

I don't know if this has been posted before but I'm having trouble separating my words into individual letters. There must be an easy way but I can't seem to figure it out. I can only think of entering them one by one and that can't be right! I'm using VCarve.

Thanks in advance.

It really depends on what you intend to do with the result.
However, one way is to use the option (Convert object to curves) in the Create Vectors menu.

Hello 12a designs,

You can right hand click on the text and select the option to "Convert to Curves" option to split the text into individual vectors.
If you would like to alter the spacing of the letters within the text, you can use the "Edit text Spacing and Curve" tool.

I hope that this helps.

Thanks both - I was wary of doing this as I thought I would end up with curved, rather than straight, letters. I'll give it a go.

Thanks again :D

Hi: Also, if you select node editing and click on the word, you'll get a note asking effectively to make each letter an individual entity. Select ok and each letter can be played with at will.

Hi Norman, only just seen this reply - thanks. I'll give this a go as the curve one is fine but I like to have options

Was wondering though, once I've split my words into letters how do I tell what font it was? Is it just as simple as either incorporating the font into the file name, or leaving a comment in the toolpath?

Thanks
Jaine

Haven't done text in awhile but I believe if you highlight a piece of text then hit the text tool (will reopen it and allow for editing) it should tell you what font it is.

Just tried what I mentioned before, did not want to leave misinformation out there. That method will work if you have not converted the text to curves.

how do I tell what font it was? I
You can make notes within your project.
In the Tool path Control there is a box labeled Notes. There you can store info about the job such as font etc. Far Right very bottom button.
