Carlin Carvin lithopanus

Post by Robatoy »

1/2" Bright White Corian.
Image inverted in Photoshop, contrast enhanced, then Aspirisied in V2.
I had waaaaay too much detail in the file, so it ran for 24 hours.
The Tag doesn't call me an apprentice for nothing :D

Nice litho I have few questions .

what size ?
what size bit ? I configured same photo in PVC 6x8 approx at 95ipm it can be done in 4.5 hours
I configured with .o3 ball nose ( i would use .25 V 30 really . It looks to me it would have more detail .

Also I am wondering why you mirrored the image to the left ?

it is a great photo and subject I have always enjoyed Mr. Carlin ...

thanks for sharing . I realy like the litho you made at least the second photo I am pretty sure the first photo is just a flip side of same litho ( wrong side to view from to get the 3 d effect)

Have fun I am betting you will make more Kent

Very cool litho, of George!

Did you apply a texture to the picture?
Kinda looks like water bubbles on his chin and in places?

I don't know if it it just me or the litho?

Great Job!
Post more!

I had one run for about 22 hours.

Grease the bubbles are cause by bit size cannot handle the resolution of the picture. ie not enough space between the hairs on his chin ( more shades of grey in tight area then the bit can cut ) here is rendering of same picture at .0625 and .03 BN I think you can see what I am talking about. picture rendering was done at size of 6x8y inches

hope this makes sence

ps I did this in PVC not aspire . I will give that a shot, I have yet to get aspire to get High resolution litho as well as PVC can do :(

IIRC, 11.5" x 16".
100 IPM, a 0.1875 ball nose.

The plan was to look at it from the smooth side, simulating a photo. I have a better idea what this is all about now

I will be making more. Miles Davis, Leonard Cohen ( I saw him in concert last week) and Bob Marley.

11.5 x 16 wow I see why it took 20 hrs
http://beckwithdecor.com/index_files/Cutters.htm makes some nice tapered bits 1/16 that I bet would work nice for that size. I also bet this one would work real nice BDP005 30° V-Bit.

keep up the good work . Please to post your next one, always like to see litho's

Yea, that, I think, was just a function of the same 0.1875 ball-nose revisiting the same spot umpteen-bezillion times.
The toolpath file had all the little weaves from his shirt in it, as it did the textures/grain of the back-ground. Just waaaaay too much unnecessary information.
If I had selected and blurred, or perhaps selected and dropped out the shirt and back-ground to 2 solid colours, it would have been a much more manageable file.
Also the step-over was set waaaay too small, as was the depth of cut maximum.
